A power system has three generating units with the following characteristics:
GeneratorCapacity (MW) Linear Cost Coefficient (Rs/MWh) Quadratic Cost Coefficient (Rs/MWh^2)
1 400 8.40 0.006
2 600 8.93 0.0042
3 650 6.78 0.004
The power demand is 550 MW. Determine the optimal generation level for each generator and the total generation cost.
Assume that the power system is operating under economic dispatch conditions, where the objective is to minimize the total cost of generating the required power subject to the constraint that the total power generated must be equal to the power demand.
The program is designed to solve this problem using the economic dispatch equation, which determines the optimal power generation level for each generator given the Lagrange multiplier (which represents the incremental cost of generating additional power) and the sensitivity factors (which represent the change in power generation due to a change in the Lagrange multiplier). The program iteratively adjusts the Lagrange multiplier until the power balance constraint is satisfied, and then calculates the total generation cost based on the optimal power generation levels for each generator.
