Nine new Image Processing courses plus one new learning path are now available as part of the Online Training Suite. These courses replace the content covered in the self-paced course Image Processing with MATLAB, which sunsets in 2026.
New courses include:
- Work with Image Data Types
- Image Registration
- Edge, Circle, and Line Detection
- Manage and Process Multiple Images
The new learning path Image Segmentation and Analysis in MATLAB earns users the digital credential Image Segmentation in MATLAB and contains the following courses:

I am inspired by the latest video from YouTube science content creator Veritasium on his distinct yet thorough explanation on how rainbows work. In his video, he set up a glass sphere experiment representing how light rays would travel inside a raindrop that ultimately forms the rainbow. I highly recommend checking it out.
In the meantime, I created an interactive MATLAB App in MATLAB Online using App Designer to visualize the light paths going through a spherical raindrop with numerical calculations along the way. While I've seen many diagrams out there showing the light paths, I haven't found any doing calculations in each step. Hence I created an app in MATLAB to show the calculations along with the visualizations as one varies the position of the incoming light ray.

Unlike last year's contest, there are some new technologies this year that might offer some advantages. Namely generative AI's like ChatGPT, Bard, etc. Not to be excluded, MathWorks just launched the AI Chat Playground :)
The contest development team has identified an issue when trying to link your new entries to submissions in the File Exchange. The issue has prevented some users from successfully linking their entries. We have a fix and will be deploying it today at 3pm EST.
My simulink program require a feedback loop from an AC signal. How does one create a mean/ median value from a sinusoidal signal. Specifically, I want to average a power signal for last 0.1 sec and then adjust PWM signal.
Over the past several months our communities have been the target of ongoing spam attacks. Spam is a common issue online and spam prevention is something we include as part of our standard development processes. The most recent attempts appear to be specifically targeting our sites with a combination of manual and automated attacks, probing with a variety of content attempting to bypass our filters. Regrettably, the attacks sometimes make it through our defenses, cluttering your inboxes and the content in our communities.
Rest assured, we are dedicated to continuing to evolve our tools and improve our capabilities to meet the goal of eliminating all spam in our communities. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to get there.
