Why does the MATLAB Command Window throw a segmentation violation when using the "Load Workspace" menu item?

I am using the MATLAB Command Window without the MATLAB Desktop in MATLAB 7 (R14).
When I use the "Load Workspace..." option from the "File..." menu, I receive a segmentation violation.

This bug has been fixed for Release 14 SP1 (R14SP1). For previous releases, please read below for any possible workarounds:
This is a bug in MATLAB 7.0 (R14) in the way that the "Load Workspace..." menu option handles the loading of workspaces.
To work around this issue, you can use the LOAD function at the MATLAB command prompt to load the MAT-file containing the desired workspace.
For example, to load the workspace contained in the file "myWorkspace.mat," issue the following command at the MATLAB command prompt:
load myWorkspace.mat
