I have installed MATLAB, I have a problem which MATLAB does not recognize associated files to it such as .m .mdl ... . I tried both 2010b and 2011a, none of them worked, and during installation it does not ask about associated files. Is there any option in MATLAB to make the default program of these files MATLAB? I looked up the preference but there was not any option related to this.

To make sure I understand: You can open and operate the files within MATLAB, but not from the Operating System? If that is correct, waht is you OS?

yes that is true, I have to open MATLAB first and then I can import and open file from open option, but not directly click on the m or mdl files

Okay, I did make the default program MATLAB to open m files, but what is interesting is that, when I click on m file it will open the MATLAB for me, but it does not open the m file in MATLAB so either way I have to again open it from MATLAB, beside, if MATLAB is open and I click on the file it will open MATLAB again in parallel. It is getting worse and worse.

That is strange. Please contact Tech Support - they might be best equipped to help you with this.
