I'd like students to write the app and let many other students run it online through a browser. Get the competitive, show-off-my-cool-app dynamic going.

Hi Craig,
I just checked Univ. of Notre Dame portal, your license includes MATLAB Web App Server (https://www.mathworks.com/products/matlab-web-app-server.html) which can be used to host and share MATLAB apps (created using App Designer) and Simulink simulations.
Please request your IT administrator or license administrator to activate and install the server. Once that's done, students can be provided access to upload their apps and can be shared with users who do not have MATLAB or Simulink. Only a browser is needed to run these apps! Happy to help.
Suresh
