Regarding Matlab Global Variables in Simulink

I have constructed a simulink model. It also has a function block. There a certain number of variables that are being used globally by both the components in the simulation as well as the function. How do I declare and use global variables such that they are accessible at both the places.

I have searched online and found about Data Store Memory blocks and Simulink.Signal. But I am not able to comprehend the given documentation clearly and am not able to apply it practically. If someone could guide me, that would be very helpful.
