Image Processing Algorithm for Z-stack image data with Bright field microscope

Hello Everyone,

I have take z-stack image data of a glass bead (Please find the attached image with this question) with Bright field microscope. Because it is not confocal microscope, it gives all of the focused plane data with some defocused details.

How to remove defocused content keeping focused content in the z-stack image data? Is there any algorithm available in Matlab? For an attached image, the focus plane is at the topmost level.

I see that no-one has responded, but wondered if you worked out a solution to this, or got a response elsewhere? I am currently trying to find code to do the exact same thing you describe.
