How can I connect missing edge of a binary image?

I want to use 'imfill()' function to fill the hole. But there are some small unconnected region in the hole(Please find the attached image). How to connect these unconnected holes?

Change (improve) your segmentation algorithm. For example, change the threshold. Otherwise, (only if that doesn't work) then you can try imclose().

Appreciate your help! Can you please give me an idea how to connect two edges 'C' (like attached image) shape bolb to make it 'D' or 'O' shape?
