SRTM Elevation profile between two points

Hello, I am attempting to produce an elevation profile from Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) data. It is 1 arcsecond in resolution so I have created an evenly spaced grid of (x,y) coordinates to correspond with the SRTM elevation data. I have a source point (Xo, Yo) and several stations located around the source (X1,Y1), (X2,Y2), etc.... The source and receiver points are not necessarily on a grid point, if they are it is by random chance. So, I need to create an elevation profile between the source and each receiver. My problem is I don't know how to search the gird and interpolate at each point along the line in order to sample the SRTM data. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Cheers, Kyle
