After the recent (Feb 2016) Windows updates KB3126587, KB3134814, KB3126593, KB3127220,  KB3140735, KB3140410 users have reported experiencing MATLAB crashing while trying to start. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the crashes are due to the way that some third-party programs handle 64-bit addressing. Although the bugs in the third-party programs existed before the Windows updates, these updates increased the chances of running into these third-party bugs more frequently.
There are three possible workarounds to prevent MATLAB from crashing:
  1. Update the third party program(s). In some cases, installing the latest version of the program(s) will resolve the issue.
  2. Remove the third party program(s). It may be helpful to contact the Technical Support department of the company that provided you with the software.
  3. Remove the Windows updates: KB3126587, KB3134814, KB3126593, KB3127220, KB3140735, KB3140410. Please consult with your IT department as this may not be desirable.
