running Matlab off Central License Server on machines that are not directly connected to internet

I manage a small cluster for my lab at my university. Our cluster consists of a central machine (a "login" node if you will) that is connected to the internet that we ssh onto, and a number of more powerful compute nodes that are accessible from the the central machine but themselves are not directly connected to the internet (for security reasons). Any number of lab members can login to the central machine, and through it, the nodes.
My university recently switched from using concurrent licenses for Matlab on our cluster to a new model of licensing, in which we simply download a very short license file and Matlab directly communicates with a Central license server every time we run it. This way, there's no need to even start the license manager on our machine. It turns out that this works fine on our central machine, so no worries there.
However, since the other nodes are not directly connected to the internet, we are not able to get Matlab working there, since it cannot contact the central license server. Is there any workaround for this, maybe something like ssh tunnelling?
