Hi
I have to do computational intensive tasks in Matlab (machine learning). I have a PC and a Notebook and I don't know which I should use.
PC: 8GB RAM, AMD Phenom II X4 965 CPU (4 cores, 3.4Ghz) und Sapphire HD 7870 graphic card, Win 7
Notebook: 12GB RAM, Intel Core i7-4600U CPU (2 cores, 3,3GhZ), dedicated graphic card, Win 8
Can someone say on which it wil run faster?
By the way, is running Matlab on Ubuntu or Win 8 faster?

I would start by adding and upgrading RAM in the desktop machine (if possible), then run a sample routine that does much of what you want to do in your actual application on both machines.
You might be able to overclock the AMD machine, and it may be able to share its computational load between its CPU and graphics card. (That depends on the driver and associated software. See if AMD Gaming Evolved is available for it.) AMD systems are used extensively in gaming machines, and while my AMD laptop does well with games and MATLAB, I have no recent experience with Intel machines.
