I'm studying linear algebra beside matlab and most of the exercises i encountered in linear algebra with linear equation system have a simple solution and simple code, i'm tend to believe also for this problem have a practicl way to solve.

Hint, for the first one you have a matrix and two column vectors:

coeffs = [4,2,1;
    2,6,-4;
    2, -14, 14]
y = [a;b;c]
x = [x1;x2;x3]

You can take it from there.
