I have downloaded the newest MATLAB2014b and tried the MATLAB engine for python. The platform is MacOS 10.9. I have no problems running the setup.py in /Applications/MATLAB_R2014b/bin/extern/engines/python/setup.py After that, when I try
import matlab.engine
it always crashes the python and shows the error message:
Segmentation fault: 11

Hi Siheng,
Which version of Python are you using? Do you have more than one version of Python installed (ex verisons 2.7.5 and 2.7.2)?
Can you try reinstalling the Python engine by calling
/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/bin/python setup.py install
and then try calling Python by the correct full PATH
/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/bin/python
Thanks, Sarah

Yes, you should be fine with Python 2.7.8. You may also need to specify the enviroment variable DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH to the path of lib folder in the Python 2.7.8 install directory.
For example using csh shell : setenv DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/lib

I have installed the MATLAB R2020a version and followed this video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WufMGW5Bv4g&t=470s]. But after all the jupyter notebook does not run and says the "matlab engine is not installed".
