Matlab 2014a extract error during install on macosx 10.9.2

While installing R2014a on macosx 10.9.2 on a mid 2012 macbook pro the error message below appeared. The following error was detected while downloading 3p/icu_maci64_1388189624.enc: /Users/stephan/Downloads/MathWorks/R2014a/archives/maci64/3p/icu_maci64_1388189624.enc (Not a directory) Would you like to retry downloading 3p/icu_maci64_1388189624.enc? If you press No, the installer will exit without completing the installation.

clicking yes simply makes the error reappear. any ideas?

I had this issue, but updating to the latest version of Java (currently Java 7 Update 67) seems to have fixed the issue for me. http://java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp
