How can I get information about a simulink model from a C program

Hello, I would like to know how to get some information about a simulink model from a C program, like the block types and their connections to each other. Right now, I am using the Matlab functions find_system() and get_param(), and then using the matlab engine to get matlab variables to my C program.

But this approach is quite painful. for every bit of information I want, the approach is not exactly the same ,and there are many matlab data structures to take into consideration: mxArray, mxChar, cells, structs, etc... I need to figure out hpw to get every parameter's structure...

I would really appreciate if there would be an easiest way to get information about simulink objects.
