Create Custom board

R2026b

Generate a template file to define a custom ESP32-S3 board configuration

Since R2026b

Model Configuration Pane: Hardware Implementation / Hardware board settings / Target hardware resources / Groups / ESP32-S3 board properties

Description

Click this button to generate a MATLAB® template class file for defining a custom ESP32-S3 board configuration. The template is pre-populated with default values for the selected Module and provides properties that you can customize, including GPIO pin assignments, build settings (CPU frequency, flash size, partition scheme), and peripheral configurations.

After you create and customize the template file, the new board name appears in the Board drop-down list. This allows you to support third-party ESP32-S3 boards or boards with non-standard configurations. For more information, see Add Custom ESP32 Arduino-Compatible Boards to Support Package.

Dependencies

To enable this parameter, set Hardware board to ESP32-S3 Series (Arduino Compatible).

The generated template class inherits from the base class corresponding to the currently selected Module. For example, selecting ESP32-S3-WROOM-1/1U generates a template that inherits from ESP32S3WROOM1TemplateBoard.

Settings

button

A push button that opens a file save dialog to specify the location for the generated template class file. The template file contains configurable properties including:

  • Board identification — Board name and variant identifier.

  • Build settings — CPU frequency, flash mode, flash frequency, flash size, partition scheme, compiler defines, and extra flags.

  • GPIO configuration — Digital input/output pins, PWM pins, servo pins, ultrasonic pins, and SPI chip select pins.

  • Memory configuration — Program memory and data memory sizes.

Recommended Settings

Use this parameter when your ESP32-S3 board is not listed in the default Board options. After generating the template, update only the properties that differ from the default module configuration. Place the custom board file on the MATLAB path so it is detected at startup.

Programmatic Use

No programmatic use is available.
