Digital Twins for UAV Autonomy:
MATLAB Tutorial at 2026 IEEE International Conference on
Register for ICRA 2026 and join the MATLAB tutorial “Digital Twins for UAV Autonomy: From Model-Based Design to Verified Deployment.” This half-day tutorial demonstrates a practical, end-to-end workflow for developing UAV autonomy from digital twin creation to validated flight deployment using MATLAB and Simulink.
Participants will learn how to:
- Build a UAV digital twin and simulate mission scenarios in 3D photorealistic simulation environments
- Apply Model-Based Design with integrated verification and validation in Simulink
- Deploy flight control algorithms to PX4® and ArduPilot® using software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) workflows to reduce sim-to-real risk
The program includes:
- A focused lecture on mission design and simulation workflows
- A hands-on deployment session demonstrating SIL and HIL integration
- A hands-on demonstration of a failure mode and effects analysis of UAV
- An expert panel discussing strategies for closing the sim-to-real gap in UAV autonomy
This tutorial is designed for researchers, students, and industry engineers seeking a rigorous, reproducible development pipeline that connects requirements and system architecture to testing, validation, and flight deployment.
Tutorial Discussion Topics
- Digital Twins
- Design and Tune UAV Control
- Drone Simulation
- PX4 Deployment
